What is Brookslyn?

Brookslyn is a non-profit web tribute to Mel Brooks. The website was created and is maintained by Me. The materials on this site are a mix of original and collected works and are intended for educational use only. All media on Brookslyn are copyright of their respective owner/creator/author. Credit is given where known. If you have any questions or issues with the use of these materials please feel free to contact me.

History of Brookslyn

  • Started in 1996 as a way to electronically preserve articles and interviews about Mel Brooks. Hosted on the University of Illinois engineering servers (uiuc.edu).
  • Posting to the web led to a flood of traffic from fans around the world. Advances in the web allowed for a cleaner design and better automation but school & work became more of a priority.
  • In 2001 the release of the Producers on Broadway opened the flood gates for new material and fans but graduate school left me with even less time to update the site. Rather than having an out of date site I decided to remove it from the internet with the hopes of re-launching it in the future.
  • 2005, four years later! The release of the Producers Movie Musical. The passing of Anne Bancroft. The re-launch of Brookslyn.

Future of Brookslyn

  • To archive, share & celebrate the laughter that Mel Brooks has brought to the world.
  • To be a source of inspiration and education for future generations.
  • To form a stable community where fans of Mel Brooks can discuss Mel Brooks and his works.
  • Solve world hunger ;-)
